Selection of axial modes emitted by a solid-state laser with a homogeneously broadened luminescence line

V. V. Gershun, V. I. Ustyugov
Abstract: A theoretical analysis is made of the requirements that the selectivity of the resonator losses must satisfy to achieve continuous emission of one axial mode from a solid-state active element, which has arbitrary dimensions and position in a resonator and emits a homogeneously broadened luminescence line. Equations are derived for a wide range of pumping conditions. Experiments on a YAG:Nd3+ laser, emitting continuously at λ=1.06 μ, confirm that the equations obtained are suitable for practical calculations.
