Abstract: Certain experimentally recorded features of the stimulated scattering of light are interpreted in terms of the phenomenon of wavefront reproduction. Stimulated scattering is often accompanied by laser action in which the transverse structure (mode) of the scattered light is governed by coincidence with the pump maxima and the longitudinal structure by the length of the effective resonator. This mechanism explains the periodic temperature dependence of stimulated Raman scattering.
