Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of the amplification of λ = 1.06 μ radiation in a 2500-mm long Nd3+-activated quartz fiber. Stimulated emission was observed when the pump energy was 180–200 J and it was accompanied by a weak spontaneous noise. When the threshold was exceeded by a factor of 2, the gain rose to 7×104.
