Abstract:
The quenching buffer method was used in investigation of flash photolysis of a C2F5I — O2 mixture. A scheme of the main processes that accompany photolysis of this mixture was proposed. The rate constant of recombination of C2F5 radicals with O2 molecules was determined. C2F5O2 peroxyl radicals, formed during photolysis, quenched the excited states I*( 52P1/2) of the iodine atom and O2*(1Δg) of the oxygen molecule at rates characterised by constants close to their gas-kinetic limits. A high recombination efficiency of C2F5O2 peroxyl radicals with I(52P3/2) iodine atoms was observed. The rate constants of reactions of C2F5O2I molecules with I* and I atoms, resulting in rapid formation of molecular iodine, were also determined.
