Characteristics of backscattering of light in fiber waveguides under double-mode conditions

Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the backscattering of light in fiber waveguides containing local defects. Operation under double-mode conditions made it possible to increase the sensitivity of the detection of defects by the backscattering method and this should be useful in the construction of distributed fiber-optic sensors.
