Abstract: Dynamic holographic gratings were recorded in α-SiC(6H) crystals (Eg ~3 eV) using ruby and neodymium laser radiations. These gratings were phase holograms characterized by a high optical strength (damage threshold about 260–280 MW/cm2), a wide spectral sensitivity range including the visible and near infrared, and a fast response with characteristic times of τ≤10–-9 sec.
