Decisive importance of the viscoelastic properties of polymers in their laser damage mechanism

M. I. Aldoshin, B. G. Gerasimov, A. A. Manenkov, V. S. Nechitailo
Abstract: An investigation was made of laser damage to polymethylmethacrylate ("organic glass") on repeated and single exposure to nanosecond radiation pulses. A correlation was established between the optical strength of transparent polymers and their viscoelastic properties, in particular, the induced elastic limit.
