Hysteresis of laser deposition of matter from the gaseous phase

Abstract: An analytic study is reported of the deposition of matter from the gaseous phase under the action of a moving laser radiation beam. An explanation is proposed of the experimentally observed hysteresis when the laser beam power or the beam velocity are varied slowly. This gives rise to switching between the formation of a continuous deposit stripe and growth of a series of rod-shaped deposits.
