Fibreoptic fibers and waveguides
Interaction of solitons in fiber-optic waveguides
V. S. Mikhalevskiĭ, V. Ya. Khasilev
Abstract:
An analysis is made of the interaction of solitons in fiber waveguides using a system of coupled nonlinear equations of the Schrödinger type. Each soliton is described by a separate equation which allows for the influence of other solitons on the refractive index of the waveguide. A solution is obtained by the method of the inverse scattering problem. It is shown that the centers of gravity of solitons travel in the same way as classical particles under the action of given forces. The forces of the interaction between solitons are determined. It is suggested that the maximum length of the fiber-optic coupling region could be increased using soliton sequences in which the forces of interaction are balanced.
