Abstract: An experimental investigation was made of the influence of buffer gases on the threshold excitation power and duration of stimulated emission from a POPOP vapor laser. The high threshold power was attributed to the absorption by excited singlet molecules in the stimulated wavelength range. An estimate was obtained of the singlet-singlet absorption cross section and the rate of accumulation of triplet molecules.
