Observation of self-excitation of oscillations of the shape of a liquid drop in a laser radiation field

Abstract: Fluctuations of the intensity of laser radiation scattered by oscillations of the shape of liquid drops in the rainbow direction were detected experimentally. Self-excitation of oscillations of the shape was observed for the first time when drops were heated by laser radiation of constant power. Estimates were obtained of the thresholds of excitation of various vibrational modes.
