Intensity fluctuations in the emission from an argon ion laser

Abstract: The response of the intensity to discharge-current fluctuations in an Ar+ laser was studied experimentally. It was shown that the extremely high sensitivity of the laser emission intensity to current fluctuations is caused by the multistage nature of the excitation and the inhomogeneous broadening of the emission line.
