Liquid-crystal noncoherent-coherent image converter based on a semiconductor-insulator structure

D. G. Sikharulidze, G. S. Chilaya, M. I. Brodzeli
Abstract: A description is given of an image converter with a photosensitive element in the form of a single-crystal silicon disk. Liquid crystals exhibiting various effects are used in the converter. Efficient noncoherent-coherent conversion of infrared images and recording of holograms of the converted images is possible if liquid crystals exhibiting the S effect are employed. The exposure time of the input image is ~10–7 sec, the sensitivity of the image converter at λ~0.9 μ is ~10–10–10–9 J/cm2, and the resolution is 10–20 lines/mm.
