Light-induced damage in a diffused optical waveguide

Abstract: A study was made of the action of high power laser pulses on the surface of an optical waveguide. It was established that the threshold for surface damage is mainly dependent on the laser pulse parameters and on the condition of the surface. A yellow coloration was found to appear in the irradiated zone. A mechanism is proposed for the formation of colloidal silver particles, which are responsible for the coloration.
