Induced anisotropy in strictional self-focusing in solids

Abstract: Coefficients of strictional nonlinearity of an isotropic solid are calculated for external self-focusing using elasticity theory equations. The average corrections to the refractive index and the anisotropy induced in the solid are determined. It is shown that strictional self-focusing can be investigated by measuring depolarization of probing radiation.
