Abstract: It was shown experimentally that a sectioned discharge tube in a laser utilizing a Pb–Ne mixture gives a higher efficiency and specific output energy and a lower lasing-threshold concentration than those obtained for a single-section discharge tube under the same initial excitation conditions. A record value for the mean lasing power of a lead vapor laser, 3.2 W, was obtained at λ=722.9 nm.
