Bound states of atoms in an optical resonance field

Abstract: An analysis is made of the interaction potential of two identical atoms which are separated by a distance less than a wavelengh in an optical resonance field. It is shown that in some cases the interaction is in the form of a potential well, whose parameters depend on the external field. In a strong field the number of bound states is ~102, whereas in a weak field it is ~10.
