Transient parametric generation of far-infrared radiation

Abstract:
An investigation was made of transient parametric generation of electromagnetic radiation in the far infrared (50–200μ) in an LiNbO3 crystal. The pump source was a Q-switched ruby laser. Far-infrared radiation power of approximately 10W was obtained when the steady-state parametric generation threshold was exceeded by a factor of 10.
