Abstract:
Analytic expressions are derived for the operation of an inductive storage unit for supplying a load with inductive and resistive components of the impedance. It is shown that a reduction in the load inductance and resistance increases the energy dissipated in the load and the dissipation time, whereas an increase in these two quantities reduces the energy and dissipation time. A report is given of an experimental check of the theoretical calculations in the case of a flash lamp-pumped laser with an active medium in the form of a solution of rhodamine 6G. The use of an inductive storage unit as the source of the pump energy has made it possible to increase the output radiation energy by a factor of 1.5 and to shorten the leading edge of the laser pulses by a factor of 2.5, compared with the case of the same laser but with a capacitative storage unit.
