Effects of laser radiation on porous materials

A. A. Uglov, V. A. Grebennikov
Abstract: An experimental study was made of the effects of laser radiation of 5×105–5×106 W/cm2 power density on porous materials, including molybdenum, nickel, bronze, and YuNDK35T5 alloy. The changes in the geometric characteristics of craters formed in these materials were analyzed. Mechanical tests were made on the samples. The dependence of the volume of the removed material on the porosity was determined and analyzed. Qualitative conclusions were drawn on the mechanisms of the ejection of a material from the interaction zone.
