Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the influence of a transverse magnetic field $H$ on the output power and noise of 0.63 $\mu m$ radiation emitted by an He–Ne laser pumped by a transverse microwave discharge. An increase (for $E \perp H$) or a reduction (for $E \parallel H$) in the output power was observed under the influence of the transverse magnetic field (here, $E$ is the intensity of a microwave field). The strongest enhancement in the output power due to the application of the transverse magnetic field of intensity $H=400$ Oe reached 30–50% for the TEM$_{00q}$ mode and 10–35% for the TEM$_{33q}$ mode. The transverse magnetic field applied to the $E \perp H$ configuration increased the radiation noise in the frequency range 1–20 kHz, but in the $E \parallel H$ case the magnetic field did not influence the noise.
