Influence of the heat of solid-phase transformations on the depth of laser hardening

N. A. Gippius, Yu. K. Danileiko, A. I. Pchelintsev
Abstract: An analysis is made of the validity of ignoring the latent heat of a solid-phase transformation in a mathematical model of the heating of a steel by pulsed laser radiation. It is shown that an allowance for the heat of transformation reduces considerably the calculated depths of penetration of the austenitic transformation isotherm.
