Characteristics of planar optical waveguides prepared by solid-state diffusion

Abstract:
A method is proposed for the calculation of the refractive index distribution function n(x) in planar diffused waveguides based on measurement of the delay of the waveguide modes. Theoretical and experimental results are given of investigations of the function n(x) and its parameters in waveguides prepared by the solid-state diffusion of a PbO film into a glass substrate.
