Abstract:
An account is given of the characteristic features of the linear and quadratic electrooptic effects in a deformed fiber waveguide. A model is proposed to account for suppression of the center of symmetry in a fiber waveguide by bending, which results in macroanisotropy and lifts the restrictions on the linear electrooptic effect. The light-guiding properties of the fiber impose certain restrictions which follow from the spatial phase-matching conditions that have to be satisfied before the linear and quadratic electrooptic effects are observed. An agreement between the theoretical and experimental results confirms the correctness of the selected model.
