Physical processes in lasers
Stark modulation in an optically pumped NH2D laser
V. G. Gerasimov, S. F. Dyubko
Abstract:
An experimental study was made of the characteristics of the operation of an NH2D laser (λ = 506 μm) when its active medium was subjected to an alternating electric field. It was found that saturation of the absorbing transition in the active molecule was lifted and this was manifested by an increase in the intensity of the output radiation of the laser in the presence of the modulating electric field, reduction in the threshold pressure of the working gas, and lowering of the pump power. The dependences of the relative increase in the intensity of the output radiation, observed in the presence of the modulating field, on the amplitude of this field and its frequency, and on the pressure of the working gas were determined.
