Stimulated scattering of light in a noisy pumping field with a spectrum wider than the frequency shift of the Stokes component

Abstract:
An investigation was made of the stimulated Brillouin scattering through 180$^\circ$ in compressed gases when the width of the pumping line $\Delta\nu_p$ was greater or smaller than the frequency shift $\delta\nu_s$ of the Stokes component. There were no basically new processes in the stimulated scattering of focused beams in the range $\Delta\nu_p\lesssim10\delta\nu_s$.
