Abstract: The photostability of various solutions of coumarin 102 was investigated using the spectral, luminescence, and lasing characteristics. Possible photoconversion mechanisms responsible for the lasing photostability are proposed. The cation form of the dye is regarded as the primary photoproduct. This approach can increase 75-fold the service life of a dye laser.
