New laser transitions in Hg I

Abstract:
Pulsed lasing was observed for seven new infrared transitions in the mercury atom. An investigation of lasing and afterglow of atomic mercury lines established that during the afterglow stage the laser transitions in Hg I were pumped by impact-radiative recombination of mercury ions created during a current pulse, whereas the pumping during a current pulse was due to electron impact.
