Energy characteristics of an electron-beam-controlled CO laser emitting simultaneously the fundamental frequency and its overtone

Abstract:
A detailed comparison is made of the results of calculations of the energy characteristics of an electron-beam-controlled CO laser with the published experimental data for regimes of simultaneous lasing at the fundamental and overtone frequencies, and for regimes in which lasing at the fundamental frequency is suppressed. It is shown that the lasing efficiencies and their dependences on the specific input energy are close to the values obtained experimentally for a sufficiently high threshold gain at the overtone if one assumes that 15–20% of the discharge energy is converted into heat and if one takes into account the redistribution of the pump energy by electron collisions of the second kind.
