Influence of time evolution of a laser breakdown nucleus in a transparent insulator on acoustic characteristics of breakdown

Abstract: A theoretical investigation is made of the generation of acoustic waves during growth of an inelastic laser breakdown zone in a transparent insulator. It is shown that the law governing the time evolution of the size of the zone can be determined unambiguously from the nature of the time dependence of the pressure in an elastic wave recorded at a large distance from a breakdown nucleus.
