Lasers

Intermode scattering by light-induced gratings in CdS-single-crystal microlasers

M. S. Brodin, A. A. Kipen', N. V. Kukhtarev, Yu. P. Piryatinskii, N. I. Yanushevskiĭ
Abstract: A possible mechanism is proposed for efficient intermode scattering in semiconductor CdS single-crystal lasers. It is shown that coupling between the total-internal-reflection modes and the outgoing modes may be achieved as a result of self-diffraction scattering, i.e., diffraction by refractive index gratings induced by the waves themselves.
