Theory of a dye laser in a mesogenic matrix near a transition to the liquid crystal phase

G. A. Lyakhov, Yu. P. Svirko
Abstract: A stochastic distributed feedback mechanism is proposed to account for the experimental results (blue shift of the wavelength, reduction of the threshold) on the lasing of a dye in a liquid crystal matrix. It is shown that this mechanism involves scattering by inhomogeneous fluctuations of the order and provides a correct quantitative description of the experimental data.
