Spontaneous violation of the saturation symmetry of atomic transitions as a mechanism for a laser-induced phase transition in ruby

Full-text PDF (798 kB) Citations (2)
Abstract: A mechanism is proposed and studied for the recently observed laser-induced phase transition in ruby as a result of which a static field that shifts the position of the R line is generated in the medium. This theory can be used to interpret qualitatively and quantitatively all the main experimental results.
