Abstract: An investigation was made of the characteristics of a pulsed high-pressure Ar–Xe laser pumped by a self-sustained volume discharge. An output energy of 0.43 J and a specific output energy of 0.75 J · liter – 1 · atm – 1 were obtained. For the first time, an increase in the laser efficiency was observed when the interelectrode separation was increased.
