Influence of diffraction of radiation on the amplification in a transversely flowing active medium

Abstract:
An analysis is made of the amplification of laser radiation in a flowing active medium. Analytic dependences are found for the change in the amplitude and phase of the field. A numerical calculation is reported of the gain, subject to a correction for diffraction spreading. The asymptotes of the numerical solutions agree with analytic expressions.
