Amplification of a multifrequency radiation pulse in the active medium of an electron-beam-controlled carbon monoxide laser amplifier

Abstract:
Experimental investigations were made for the first time of the amplification of a multifrequency radiation pulse generated by an electron-beam-controlled CO laser in the multilevel active medium of an electron-beam-controlled CO amplifier. A value of ~30 J · liter –1· amagat –1 was achieved for the specific output energy of the amplifier. The effective saturation energy was determined and was found to be roughly 5–10 J · cm –2 · amagat –1 for the conditions of the experiment (τp ≈ 150μsec).
