Preionization of a CO2 laser gas mixture by α particles

Yu. V. Glushchenko, V. E. Lavrentyuk
Abstract: The rate of formation of electron-ion pairs was measured in a CO2 laser discharge chamber in a steady-state flux of α particles. Numerical modeling was performed for conditions corresponding to those of the experiment. An analysis was made of the influence of the pressure, gas-mixture composition, and irradiation geometry on the rate and spatial homogeneity of the ionization.
