Analytic theory of the structure of collective modes in antiguided semiconductors

Abstract:
A general theory of periodic diode laser arrays is developed in the approximation of an effective complex permittivity described by a step periodic function. Rigorous expressions are derived for the elements of a transfer matrix. Explicit expressions are obtained for the near-field and far-field patterns of a finite array. An analysis is made of the separate components of the radiation balance in an array and a two-dimensional optical-confinement factor is derived explicitly. A comparison of the results obtained with numerical calculations is made for a resonant antiguided structure.
