Physical processes in lasers

Dependence of the gain of a free-electron laser on the angular and energy scatter of a beam of particles and on nonlinearities of undulator fields

E. G. Bessonov, M. L. Vnukova
Abstract: Numerical calculations are used in an investigation of the influence of the angular and energy scatter of a beam of particles on the gain of a free-electron laser. Approximate analytic expressions convenient in practical use are derived for the gain. The conditions for matching the beam emittance to the undulator acceptance are identified.
