Narrowing of the spectrum of multimode wide-band lasers

Abstract:
A theoretical analysis is made of the narrowing ("condensation") of the emission spectrum of a wide-band laser with a weak but narrow gain profile. The condensation represents a phase transition similar to that on appearance of lasing and is essentially "second" lasing. The mechanism of condensation of the spectrum near a strong absorption line is considered.
