Propagation of radiation in a light-induced active waveguide

Abstract: An investigation is reported of the properties of the normal modes of an active light-induced waveguide. It is shown that, in contrast to a dielectric waveguide, the presence of the active component may increase considerably the number of the normal modes and the angles of their scattering. In the case of an active light-induced waveguide in the form of a thin filament the normal modes exist and are amplified only in the case when the nonlinear correction to the refractive index is positive.
