Stimulated Raman scattering in an optical fiber with strong wavelength-dependent losses

Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of stimulated Raman scattering in a capillary fiber waveguide with very different losses (attenuation) for the first and second Stokes components (the attenuation factor of the second Stokes component approached the gain due to stimulated Raman scattering). It was found that the second Stokes component was strongly suppressed and the energy of the first component increased by 35%. An analysis was made of the change in the profile of the envelope of the optical pulses at the Stokes frequencies as a function of the attenuation at the wavelength of the second Stokes component.
