Effects of laser radiation on matter

Calculation of the gain of a C VI laser plasma expanding as a cylinder and a cylindrical layer

Abstract: Calculations are reported of the gain due to the 3–2 transition in the C VI ion in an expanding plasma cylinder or a cylindrical layer. Under the conditions in the experiments at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (Chilton, England) amplification was observed as a result of evaporation of a fairly thin (~ 0.1 μm) cylindrical layer. A peak of the gain was reached in a relatively short time (~ 0.1 ns).
