Generation of nanosecond radiation pulses as a result of stimulated Brillouin scattering in a single-mode fiberglass waveguide
A. Ya. Karasik, A. V. Luchnikov
Abstract:
An experimental investigation was made of the time characteristics of stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) in a single-mode glass fiber waveguide pumped with a radiation of wavelength λp = 1.064 μ. Nanosecond pulses of duration less than one tenth of the relaxation time of an acoustic mode were observed. A 15-fold reduction in the pulse duration was achieved as a result of STBS. Possible mechanisms of generation of nanosecond pulses as a result of STBS in a single-mode fiber waveguide were analyzed.
