Abstract: Competition between two processes, ablation and transition to a viscoelastic state, during the action of laser radiation on a polymer is considered. It is shown how the relationship between the energy thresholds of these two processes affects the quality of the polymer surface after laser irradiation. Theoretical estimates are compared with experimental results.
