Abstract:
The influence of a longitudinal magnetic field on the output radiation power of Ne II, Ar II, and Kr II ion lasers was investigated. In addition to the magnetoplasma effect associated with the plasma magnetisation, the magnetic field altered the partial pressures of the charged and neutral plasma components. The latter effect appeared at high degrees of the discharge ionisation and was the dominant one in the Kr+ laser. A qualitative explanation of the new effect is proposed.
