Propagation of light pulses in inhomogeneous nonlinear media

Abstract: Analytic expressions are obtained for the parameters of a Gaussian beam in a nonlinear medium with a quadratic inhomogeneity. The limits of validity of the parabolic approximation are determined for such nonlinear media and the conditions for the appearance of the waveguide regime are found.
