Abstract: An analysis is made of the temperature dependence of the amplification of pulses of ~10 nsec duration in YAG:Nd3+, assuming that the lifetime of the lower active level is appreciable and allowing for a Boltzman distribution of the sublevel populations of the 4F3/2 and 4I11/2 multiplets. The suitability of this model for the active medium was confirmed experimentally.
