Simple model of heating and compression of spherical shell targets by high-intensity laser radiation

Abstract: A fairly simple model of heating and compression of laser thermonuclear fusion targets is proposed. This model provides a unified description of the exploding pusher and shell compression regimes hitherto considered separately. A comparison is made with the experimental results obtained for several systems under different conditions with the predictions of our model. A good agreement between the theoretical and experimental results is demonstrated.
