Abstract:
An experimental study was made of time-dependent stimulated Brillouin scattering (STBS) in CCl4. Under optimal focusing conditions a pulse reflected from an STBS mirror was shortened from 6 msec to 350 psec. The energy parameters of the pump radiation required for the maximum pulse compression were determined. It was found that in the case of STBS of focused beams in CCl4 the minimum duration of ~350 psec was limited by the competing effect of stimulated Raman scattering which resulted in splitting of the STBS pulse.
